Consider deeding City property owned in the Oliver Davis Survey, Abstract 372, Parker County, Texas to the Weatherford-Parker County Economic Development Corp. Mayor Hooks advised that this item was withdrawn. Discuss and consider a request to fund a wastewater line extension for the Miracle League baseball park. CC 061014 Page 1 of 3 Sharon Hayes, Assistant City Manager, presented this request to fund a sewer line extension. In February 2014, Mr. Mercer, a local businessman, requested the city's assistance in constructing a ball field designed to serve special needs kids. The Board reviewed this request at their February 27 meeting. During the initial discussion with Mr. Mercer he mentioned that the availability of ADA hotel rooms in Weatherford was one reason he wanted to build the field in this location. His past association with the Miracle League led him to believe that this field would draw from the western side of the metroplex as far away as Abilene. Many of the families choose to stay in hotels because it is easier on the participants. The Board approved the extension but asked that it be constructed as a pro rata line, and to request hotel occupancy tax (HOT) funds for the project. Discuss and consider ordinance 677-2014-22 allowing an exemption to the City's smoke free ordinance for "veterans organizations" as defined by the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code. City Manager Jerry Blaisdell presented this item. At the last meeting, Council requested staff to bring a draft amendment for consideration. The draft includes a reference to the Texas Alcoholic Beverage Code for veteran organizations that are chartered by the United States Congress. Mr. Blaisdell suggested the Council might want to consider adding a caveat that the VFW cannot allow smoking when their establishment is open to the public. Councilmembers noted that they had received emails from VFW members expressing their desire for the establishment to remain smoke-free inside. Councilmembers also stated that the ordinance was put into effect for the health and safety of our citizens. On the motion of Heidi Wilder, second by Jeff Robinson, the Council voted unanimously to deny Ordinance 677-2014-22 and make no amendments to the present smoke-free ordinance. Motion carried 5 - 0.
Discussion regarding the 2014 Cost of Service Adjustment filing from Texas Gas. On the motion of Heidi Wilder, second by Waymon Hamilton, the Council voted unanimously to table this item. Motion carried 5 - 0.
Brief City Council on preparations for the 2016 Bankhead Highway 100 year anniversary. Craig Farmer, Director of Planning and Development, presented this item. The state historical commission contacted Weatherford, Big Spring, and Mount Pleasant as three locations along the Bankhead Highway to consider participating in a celebration of the 100th anniversary of the highway. One reason they contacted Weatherford is because we still have portions of the roadway that are named Bankhead Highway. They have requested our participation in approximately six months of workshops. They will bring in some folks to assist with tourism and have asked us to provide meeting space, and some meals. Staff has notified the commission that we are interested. Staff has already, or will be reaching out to other stakeholders including the Chamber of Commerce, Parker County, and others that might like to join us. Since this is as much a special event as it is a historic downtown/Main Street event, CC 061014 Page 2 of 3 staff from both the Planning and Development and the Parks and Recreation departments are working together with other City departments. Staff will update the Council as more details are received.
