The city's proposed FY27 budget: $61.4 million in revenue, a tax rate held at $0.392246, adoption set for Sept. 8

At its Aug. 25 meeting the council held the public hearing on the city manager's proposed budget and heard no comments; the rate is a penny under the no-new-revenue rate, per the minutes.

The Weatherford City Council held the public hearing on the city manager's proposed FY27 budget on Aug. 25, 2026. Budget Manager Ashley Esquivel presented a balanced general fund with $61.4 million in revenues and $61.3 million in expenditures, a projected year-end fund balance of $31.6 million, projected sales tax revenue of $23.6 million and property tax revenue of $13.7 million, per the minutes.

The proposed property tax rate is $0.392246 per $100 of valuation, equal to last year's rate and $0.01 less than the no-new-revenue rate. The minutes note it is the sixth year in the past seven that the city has adopted or proposed a rate at or below the no-new-revenue rate. Mayor Paul Paschall opened the hearing at 6:14 p.m. and closed it at 6:15 p.m. with no comments received; no action was taken or required.

City Manager James Hotopp reminded the council that the FY27 tax rate and budget would be adopted at the Sept. 8 meeting. The same night the council approved, on the consent agenda, the preliminary and final plats for Mathew Meadows Estates, 27 residential lots on about 21.13 acres at 1609 Old Dicey Rd., final plats for Stonegate (two lots on Cherry Street) and 616 Cove (one lot on Palo Pinto Street), and a resolution adopting the city's investment policy, all 5-0.
