Approval of Minutes – March 27, 2025. The minutes of the March 27, 2025 meeting were reviewed. Following review and discussion, Director Barnett made a motion to approve the minutes as presented. Director Carter seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Review of and vote to approve Financial Statements/Reports. Director Carter noted that the Finance Committee met with Ms. Harris earlier and reviewed all the financial statements and reports. Following review and discussion, Director Carter made a motion to approve the financial statements and reports as presented. Director Barnett seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously.
Update from Medical City CEO. Mr. Bacus introduced Mr. Allen Marsh, the new CEO of Medical City Weatherford. Mr. Marsh gave a brief summary of his background and updated the Board on the first quarter activities at Medical City Weatherford. Mr. Marsh also updated the Board on possible changes in the laws for health insurance exchanges which will negatively affect the healthcare industry.
Legislative Update. Mr. Jackson updated the Board on selected bills that have been filed in the current Legislative session. He noted that some, if passed, would negatively affect the healthcare industry. One particular bill would substantially raise the cap on non-economic damages in healthcare lawsuits. If the bill were to pass it could double or triple malpractice premiums for healthcare providers. Mr. Jackson noted that there are only six weeks left in the legislative session and he is optimistic that the bill will not pass.
Reports from Parker County Hospital District Departments. Administration: Mr. Bacus reported that this year the Hospital District will be receiving $903,097 from the Tobacco Settlement Distribution Program. Mr. Bacus reminded the Board members of the Texas Healthcare Trustee’s Annual Conference which will be held at the Loews Arlington Hotel and Conference Center on June 12 through June 14. Mr. Bacus noted that although the Trustee Conference is in June this year instead of July the dates do not conflict with the June Board meeting and it will be held as usual on June 26. EMS: Mr. Backus announced that three EMS employees are currently involved in assisting several law enforcement agencies with a recovery operation in the southern part of the county. The Hospital District’s rescue boat and ATV have been deployed. Mr. Backus emphasized that he would keep the Board appraised of the situation. The EMS Special Operations team recently assisted ESD 1 and Central Fire with a rope rescue after an auto went off an embankment.
