Budget Amendment #1: Weatherford ISD lowers expected state revenue by $3,189,327, to $33,837,657, and adds $154,725 in spending, leaving the 2026-27 general fund about $2.95 million short

The summary, prepared by Chief Financial Officer Patricia Melendez and Director of Finance Bethany Cichonsky and revised Oct. 13, raises local revenue by $369,834 and federal revenue by $22,615, so total revenue falls $2,796,878, to $98,202,584. On the spending side the largest changes are $80,000 for facilities acquisition, $48,086 for general administration, $46,639 for transportation and $39,984 for curriculum and staff development, offset by $63,059 less for instruction; total budgeted spending rises to $101,150,978. The memo does not explain the state revenue change. It notes a district "must amend the official budget before exceeding a functional expenditure category," and the amendment was a consent item at Monday's meeting; BoardBook had not posted the outcome as of Tuesday morning.

The district's tax collection report through Aug. 31 shows $75,782,067 collected on an adjusted 2025 levy of $76,929,845 by the appraisal district's figures, about 98.5%; the district budgets on a 98.5% collection rate.

The annual report counts money beyond local taxes, state aid and federal funds. Interest rose $201,224 from 2024-25. Tison Middle School, Crockett Elementary and Ikard Elementary must file Targeted Improvement Plans with the Texas Education Agency, and the district wrote its own plans for Seguin Elementary and Hall Middle School

The improvement-plan memo says the three campuses' plans are required under state accountability and school-improvement rules and go to TEA after board approval; the local plans for Seguin and Hall add district monitoring. A separate item proposes the district's first House Bill 3 goals since its last set, adopted in December 2020, expired in June 2025: five-year targets for early literacy, early math and college, career and military readiness from 2026-27 through 2030-31, with 2025-26 as the baseline. The memo says 2026-27 will be the last full year of STAAR before the state's Student Success Tool begins in 2027-28, so the goals may be revisited. The board was also asked to approve a state ESL waiver for one Ikard Elementary teacher who serves emergent bilingual students and does not yet hold ESL certification.
